New Perodua Myvi in April 2011 - Includes 1.5 Liter Version?

Perodua Myvi

Perodua’s new MD Aminar Rashid Salleh unveiled to Utusan Malaysia that we can expect a new Perodua Myvi somewhere around April 2011, with a Myvi SE to be launched a couple of months later around June 2011. He also revealed that a new 1.5 liter variant of the Myvi is in the works. This makes sense since they are already making the transverse-install front wheel drive 1.5 liter 3SZ-VE engine for the Alza, why not put it in the Myvi?

Apparently the new Myvi will have a new look. It’s actually about time for the Myvi to be refreshed, so Perodua is pretty much on schedule for a typical 5 year lifecycle with a facelift in the middle. The Myvi was launched in May 2005 and after 5 years, time for a replacement in the first half of 2011. If you remember, in mid-February we saw the Myvi’s Japanese cousin refreshed with a new look. Frankly, I don’t expect the Myvi to look 100% like that model as with each new rebadge product, Perodua has been moving away further and further from the JDM model’s exterior and interior.

I feel Toyota/Daihatsu has been slowly moving their JDM models to target specific niche markets with very tailor-made products. They have so many little cars based on the same platform over there in Japan, and from the marketing material of the new Passo/Boon, it’s quite obvious that the car is now targeted towards young ladies. In Malaysia, the Myvi is a unisex mass market car, so I’m expecting both exterior and interior styling to differ significantly in the details, while generally keeping the same shape.

New Proton Inspira - Waja Replacement Model

Proton Inspira

SHAH ALAM: Proton Holdings today unveiled the new Proton Inspira based on the Mitsubishi Lancer four-door sedan, finally ending months of speculation of how the successor to the Waja model would look like.

The whole car was not shown at the media preview at Proton’s Centre of Excellence this morning. Rather a mock-up of the front portion of the car was displayed on a truck, which will be making its rounds in the Klang Valley, Kuantan, Johor Baru and Penang.

The car is tentatively scheduled for official launch on Nov 10.

The Inspira differs from the Lancer model with a revised front end featuring a grille with the Proton logo and a winged chrome bar.

Elsewhere, changes are not easily noticeable except for the Inspira badge at the trunk lid.

The Inspira is available in three variants - a 1.8-litre with a five-speed manual transmission, 1.8-litre with a INVECS III six-speed continuously variable transmission (CVT) and 2.0-litre with CVT.

The engines, meanwhile, are Mitsubishi’s all-aluminium MIVEC type with variable valve timing.

The specifications were not disclosed at this time.

The suspension system has been tweaked for a “Lotus handling and ride” with changes to spring and shock absorber ratings, as well as bushing stiffness.

Standard features include a strong body with a five-star crash rating, dual front airbags, anti-lock braking system, 16-inch wheels with all-round disc brakes, remote trunk release, steering wheel audio control buttons and fully automatic climate control.

The high-end 2.0-litre variant gets additional features such as steering column mounted paddle shifters and leather seats.

Pricing starts at RM79,880 for the base variant while the 2.0-litre version will cost not more than 95,000.

The car will be available in maroon, silver, white and black.

Bookings for the car can be placed at any Proton Edar dealership with a RM1,000 deposit. Those who book now until Nov 15 will enjoy a two-year free service package.

All-New Mitsubishi ASX Now Available for Booking

Mitsubishi ASX

October 06, 2010

Stylish compact crossover launching soon

The new ASX compact crossover from Mitsubishi Motors has been creating waves across the world. This exciting global car will reach Malaysian shores very soon. Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia, the importer and distributor of Mitsubishi Motors vehicles, has announced that it will begin collecting bookings for the ASX from 8 October onwards.

The all-new ASX compact crossover is expected to be officially launched in early November 2010.

The ASX's key concept is 'Smart-Sized'- more compact than a conventional SUV, but larger than a compact car with a higher seating position, thus striking a fine balance between the two. Passenger car handling and agility from an SUV's vantage point as well as utility are not sacrificed - the ASX offers both.

The ASX will be powered by a 2.0-litre 16-valve engine with Mitsubishi's proprietary MIVEC system. This modern DOHC power plant has 150 PS of power and 197 Nm of torque. It will be paired with an INVECS-III CVT gearbox with 6-step Sports Mode.

Equipment levels are generous. The ASX comes with standard Active Stability Control (ASC), Hill Start Assist and dual front airbags plus a driver's knee airbag. Also included are leather seats, a 2-DIN wide touch screen audio system, reverse camera, automatic air-conditioning and cruise control are luxurious extras. A full-colour LCD multi-information system in the instrument panel complete the vision of perfection.

Available in five colours, the estimated price for a fully-imported Mitsubishi ASX from Japan is RM140,000.00 (Peninsular Malaysia). For more information, please visit your nearest Mitsubishi Motors showroom, log-on to www.mitsubishi-motors.com.my or call the Mitsubishi Motors Customer Care Line at 03 7622 2202.
